Thanks for everyone's contributions. It looks like we're going to be starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - C S Lewis.

Hopefully this will be a good starting point - it's probably the shortest and easiest book we had on out list (bar in mind it is for kids), so will get us into the swing of things nicely. Also, we have the added incentive of the film coming out soon.

Not knowing how fast we all are at reading, or how much time we get for it, we won't set targets on where to get to at the moment. If you reach an interesting point or have any comments to make, post in the community. Everyone can post, but I think there are a few out there who haven't joined and are only 'watching' - you'll need to join to post.

All posts should avoid spoilers int he visible text - keep it under an LJ-cut folks. Just some reference (by chapter - pages won't do any good as we'll all have different copies) to the point you've reached to be making the observations.

I'll do my best to add all posts in the memories so everyone can keep up, and find what they're looking for.

Any other suggestions, please tell me.

In the meantime, happy reading!

Goody - I was hoping it would be that one. It's just as well it's a short one at the moment - I know a few of us have a fair few assignments etc at this time of year :)
I'll get right onto reading it :)

Perth readers
For any people in Perth, Western Australia who don't own a copy, Fantastic Planet currently has the book in stock. I work at Fantastic Planet and I'll contact my manager to see if I can set up a book club discount.

Also, since the film is coming out soon it would be interesting to compare the text to the film.

Wow - that's a good offer:)

And yeah, it'll be nice to be able to have film/book discussions - thankfully I think this is one of the few films that comes out worldwide on the same date.

Details of Fantastic Planet's discount to book clubs as follows:

"The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" for $14.41
"Narnia Omnibus" for $33.96

The above prices include the 15% discount. This deal isn't just for Perth people, as we will happily mail out the books (this will raise the price a bit to cover freight costs). For more details email sales@fantasticplanet.com.au.

The 15% discount will apply to all books the reading club covers but will only be valid for the time we are discussing the book. To claim this discount you have to prove you are part of reading_club (telling us your lj name will suffice).

I know! I was going to post a film comparison post - but I'm not seeing it 'til later this week. I'm probably going to be the last one here.

Maybe we should move on and have a New Year's Resolution to read!

oo-oh I've seen it and would LOVE, love, love to have a book/film comparison discussion. Even if it's only you and me. Lol. I'll pimp reading_club in my journal, but I don't know if that will help...

Maybe when we have a new book we should do some serious pimping? I know that a lot of people were really busy before Christmas with all sorts of deadlines and stuff. Now may be a ood time to get that sorted out.

Sorry did't realise I hadn't logged in before!
